NYPD Blue - the TV movie? What do you think?

As I read various newspaper colunms from around the country (online of course, I'm not continually traversing the country) I regularly see enertainment editors commenting on television series they miss or wish would return. Sometimes I've seen list of long gone series that columnists would like to see come back, if only for a limited time, as a TV movie. NYPD Blue is mentioned frequently as a series people would like to see return in the form of a TV movie.

I am curious what the readers of this blog think. Would you like to see Blue return as a one time TV movie? What storylines would you like to see covered in the movie? Which characters/actors must be featured in the movie? Any loose ends you'd like to see wrapped up in a TV movie that you felt were left unfinished when the series went off the air?

Share your thoughts! I'd love to hear what readers have to say about a Blue fantasy TV movie!!

I would love to see a TV movie of NYPD Blue, but of course, one will never be enough! I'd like to have all the characters show their faces at some point so we can find out where their lives have gone since we last saw them. It would be nice to see what happened with Kim Delaney. Every time we saw her, there was always an issue. It would be nice to see her happy and healthy once again, as she was with Bobby. Charlotte Ross would be a definite bonus to see and what has happened with her and Andy. What about Captain Fancy? Detectives Martinez, Kirkendall, Ortiz? And of course we can't forget our favorite cheese eater. Too much for one movie? Guess they'll have to make two!!

Good question! I know I'd love to see a Blue movie. Of course it couldn't be done without Dennis Franz because Andy Sipowicz is NYPD Blue. That of course would mean we'd need Charlotte Ross and Austin Majors and the 2 little Sipowicz's to make the family complete.

I'd love to see as many as of the old cast members as possible without trying to cram them all into one movie. Therefore we'd need more than one to satisfy me. Maybe Andy and the crew at the 15th could be called upon to solve the untimely murder of Andy's old partner John Kelly.

A NYPD Blue tv movie would be wonderful! They could tie up loose ends that were never fully addressed in the show. I like the idea of most or a lot of the old crew reuniting in some form. You couldn't get everyone in on the fun but some of the old cast from the beginning would be nice. I like the idea of them trying to solve John Kelly's murder - but I don't want to hear too much about John Kelly/Caruso!

We'd definitely have to have the Sipowicz Family represented. Maybe Connie could be back on the job. Charlotte Ross and Dennis Franz would have to be on board for a tv movie. Without them it wouldn't be worth watching. Maybe John Clark would be married, I'd like to see Ortiz and definitely Henry Simmons. Detective Martinez and John Irvin too!

Wow, the possibilities are endless when you start thinking about this! Wish it would take place!!

I would love to see a movie or two about NYPD Blue. I'd like to see Lt. Rodriguez, Esai Morales, back. He had a cop heart not a security type guy. Also I like to see John Irving, Sgt. Martinez, Det. Jones. Maybe someone could get killed at one of Medavo's apartment and they framed him. That would be a hoot. To make it work, what ever the plot, Dennis Franz has got to be there.

I'd love to see a TV movie of NYPD Blue too! However, i agree it would be difficult to do it in one TV movie. Maybe, at least 2 of them! Dennis Franz is a must have to make it work. I'd say Charlotte Ross is too! We need their relationship to be part of the movie and to fill us in on where they are now. I'd like to see Martinez come back, maybe Kirkendall, John Irvin and Fancy too and of course we need Baldwin Jones and Rita Ortiz!

Man, just thinking about this makes me want it to happen!! Great Question!!

I say NO. Blue had a good finale with a logical conclusion.

Don't ruin it with a two-hour movie.

Doubt you could get everyone back. Doubt Bochco and Ross will ever work together again. So you start with big holes.

Let the finale stand as the last chapter.

Here's my take...

I'd love to see Blue be a TV movie but I doubt it will ever really happen.

I'm not sure you could ever convince Dennis to do it.

For me, the biggest hole left by the series conclusion was what became of Andy and Connie. She walked out that door during the middle of Season 11 to go on maternity leave and was never seen again. Connie was referred to less and less as Season 12 and the series concluded.

For me, it is the single biggest gaping hole of Andy's life and the single biggest gaping hole of the series. Andy's home life was non-existent no matter how many references they made to it during Season 12 and there weren't that many.

That couldn't be helped given the situation between Ross and Bochco.

Unless you can get Dennis and Charlotte both back on board, I don't want to see a movie or any kind.

The series did have a satisfying ending as it related to Andy's work life but his home life is still out there in limbo in TV land.

DA PREZ of the A & Cers!!!

I doubt the movie would ever happen as well, especially if there were issues between Bochco and Ross. I agree with you completely "Da Prez" that the movie would definitely have to include both Dennis and Charlotte or it wouldn't be complete. I thought it was a fun question and gave my opinion as to what I would love to see if it ever happened. Then again, I don't think I would want just one. I would want more and more and I think the show had run its course. It's too bad. One of the best shows on television and we can't even get the whole show on DVD. I'll just keeping waiting and hoping!

What's all this about Charlotte Ross and Steven Bochco having problems getting along? I worked on the show, as background/extra work, several times when Charlotte was in the cast. It was during the time Charlotte was pregnant - the last episode I worked on was You're the Bomb (I think that was the title). I never saw any animosity between them. They appeared almost friendly. Keep in mind, this was on the set or stage and not in front of gossip writers or papparazzi.

As to a possible TV movie - I'd love it but I think it would be impossible to gather enough of the cast to make it happen. They've all moved on to other projects. But, if it could happen, I think it would be wonderful! I loved the show and felt fortunate to work on some episodes and to meet the warm and friendly cast.

I think Ross was nothing but totally professional on set and the chemistry between her and Dennis and the rest of the cast at that time was terrific. :-)

(Baby Love from Season 9 is still one of my all time favorite episodes...you can't buy the chemistry between MPG, Charlotte and Dennis during that desk scene where Clark rags on Andy about being a "player".)

But at around the same time "You Da Bomb" was being filmed in Season 12, Bochco was negotiating with ABC for another season. ABC agreed to bring back the show if Bochco would cut costs. He agreed to cut costs and I think letting Ross go was a way to achieve a means to an end. He could guarantee the show's survival for one more season and cut costs by cutting salary. I'm sure Ross was amenable at the time because she wanted to spend time being a new mommy.

A group of A & Cers began a post card campaign to bring Ross back which made its way to Bochco and company. TV Guide at the time made it sound as if there had been a rift between them. I don't know if it was true or not. Ross seemed willing but they could not agree on terms. But Bochco didn't seem willing to meet her half-way.
In my book, that's a cop-out!!!

We'll never know the real story but it's my guess that you'll never see Ross again in a Bochco production and that is truly unfortunate.

So what do we get...an unfulfilled and I do mean "unfulfilled home life ending" for Andy and his happy life. I cannot tell you how badly I wanted to see Ross show up and walk into that precinct house at the end of the last episode.

It could have been such an "awesome moment".

If I can't have that, could I at least have Seasons 9, 10 and 11 on DVD so I can watch Andy and Connie anytime I want?

For everything else, there's fanfic! :-)
